Sagem VS1 Details
IAN can anybody tell me if you can increase the volume for the text tone or change it to a better or longer tone my mother cant hear it and she is 300 miles away ?
mal ouston I recently acquired a Vodaphone Simply Sagem VS2. I keep being told the txt memory is full and accordingly i click on the screen to indicate clear memory. About an hour later all address book logs say they are empty. The very next new txt I receive I am again told the memory is full. Is there some way of clearing the memory other than the above. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Anonymous I recently bought a Sagem VS-1 (also known as Sagem Simply) for my mother. Like anything else in this world, it has its pros and cons. The fact that I write more about the downsides than about the advantages is evidence of my grumpy nature and not of the quality of the handset.
*** The pros:
*The* huge advantage of this phone is its big screen with large clear black characters on a uniform white background. Designed for reading, not for artistic contemplation.
Key locking by means of a switch that physically moves into an "on" or "off" position. This is much more senior-friendly than most other phones, which use a combination of pushbuttons that changes a status signalled by an LCD icon.
Locking and unlocking the keys is additionally signalled by an intuitively clear change in screen appearance.
Most buttons are clearly spaced apart. Not all though – this is one of the cons below.
One reassuring “home” button can get you out of whichever corner of the menu structure you have painted yourself into.
This “home” and Phonebook buttons are easy to locate and identify.
*** The cons:
The markings on most buttons are a disappointment. The buttons themselves are shiny greyish silver, and the characters and symbols are shiny pale green. To make things worse, they are not nearly as big as they might on a handset this size. The bottom line is that they are hardly visible even to a young and healthy eyesight. The “hello” and “good-bye” buttons only carry tiny green and red marks, respectively. In my opinion, they ought to be entirely made of green and red plastic. The backlight only helps in total darkness, not in the gentle diffuse light so typical of many elderly people’s homes.
The two menu keys (the ones just under the screen and whose functions are indicated on the display) are placed confusingly close to the “hello” and “good-bye” buttons, almost merging with them. The visual and tactile clues that should help you tell them apart are very subtle.
If you type a long number (as phone numbers nowadays are), the character size suddenly shrinks to fit the number into the width of the screen. Why can’t it just split into two or more lines?
The Settings menu and the “Log” (a _very_ comprehensive concept on this phone) are each accessible by a single button. This leads to confusion if either button is pressed by mistake. Normally, neither the Settings nor the Log will be used very often, and in my opinion should be stowed somewhere out of harm’s way.
The top entry in the Phonebook is “Add new contact”. Again, it is easy to select it by mistake and get confused.
The charging cradle is a bad joke. It does not properly hold the plug of the charger cable, so when you push the phone into the cradle and onto the plug you push the plug out through the cradle’s bottom. The cradle is also too light compared to the rigidity of the cable, the weight of the handset, and the tight fit of the plug. You try to lift the phone and the cradle comes up with it.
<unknown> What a... It looks strange.
<unknown> The problem of no ringing seems to be solved by turning the phone off and in my case
Po Great idea if you have a mother like mine!!! ha ha

Will Long shot here but wondering if anyone can help me - recently bought the Sagem Simply phone for my elderly mum. She has somehow managed to change the language settings and is not getting 'gobbledigook' instead of English. I am 200 miles away and nowhere near a handset - can someone please advise what she needs to do - in very simple terms - to get it back into English and I will pass on. Many thanks and Happy new year. Will !!
pipi40 I have the same problem as another person, hope someone can help.
Have somehow managed to turn the ring tone volume off, even though it says "Loud" on the screen and the level is on 6 in the settings. The phone will ring (but not sound)and if you're looking at it, the name & number comes up with a green "Silent"
box on bottom right. I have called Vodafone & what they told me to do I had already done but still it won't make a ringing noise when someone calls & says Silent!
